EMCEE OF THE WEEK - AZ

Monday, December 7, 2009

This week's "EMCEE OF THE WEEK" goes to Brooklyn's own AZ (a.k.a. S.O.S.A.). AZ has managed to get himself back into the New York hip hop spotlight this week with a scheduled concert at the legendary S.O.B.'s night club in Manhattan. He will be performing along side former "Firm" group member Foxy Brown with DJ Absolute and Easy Mo Bee on the decks this Thursday night at 9:00 PM. (For tickets check SOB's website at: http://www.sobs.com/node/25.) The show has been set as a DVD release party for a new movie AZ is acting in titled "Envy", which stars Ray J, Lisa Raye & Maia Campbell.

For anyone who deosn't know how AZ was famously introduced to the hip hop world as the only guest appearance on Nas's classic debut album "Illmatic", you need to seriously consider listening to alternate genres of music because hip hop simply ain't for you!!! AZ has been in the game since spitting his classic verse on "Life's A Bitch" in 1994 and has recorded 8 studio albums and 9 mixtape/unreleased records as well.

My personal favorite album from him was his second LP "Pieces of a Man" which was released in 1998. The album is a straight-through classic that showcased his capacity to paint pictures of street life in New York through one of the smoothest rhyme deliveries to ever grace a record. AZ has one of the most precise flows in hip hop history with a truly talented ability to intricately layer double, triple and sometimes quadruple rhymes into his bars with seemless ease.
